Steamed buns and cheeseburger filling isn’t exactly my idea of great eating .. but Disney found a way to make it delicious as usual!

I grew up eating steamed bao with more traditional Asian fillings like xa xiu (Chinese bbq pork); so, the thought of a cheeseburger filling was kinda unsavory until I tasted it for the first time.

It’s exactly what it sounds like. You’ve got all your typical burger ingredients blended into this Sloppy-Joe-like-mixture and wrapped up in a bao bun. There are 2 ways you can cook this — steamed or air fried. We tried both and steamed pods was, by far, the winner.

If you like crunchy buns, by all means, go the air fryer route. But, the chewy texture of the steamed dough makes it yummier for some reason.

You can find these delicious Cheeseburger Pods at Satu’li Canteen in Animal Kingdom (About a 1 min walk from Pandora).

These Cheeseburger Pods are served as a kid’s menu item at Satu’li Canteen, but our whole family enjoyed eating these as a dinner meal at home. Just make sure you make enough to satisfy everyone’s appetite!

Ingredients

  • 3 Cans of Refrigerated Biscuit Dough
  • 1 Pound Ground Beef
  • 1 Cup Shredded Cheddar Cheese
  • 1/2 Cup Ketchup
  • 1/4 Cup Dill Pickle Relish
  • 2 Tablespoons Yellow Mustard
  • 1 Tablespoon Brown Sugar
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Seasoned Salt
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Black Pepper

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1

Start by browning the ground beef in a non-stick pan over medium-high heat.

Step 2

When the beef is thoroughly cooked, add in the ketchup, mustard, brown sugar, garlic powder, seasoned salt, and pepper. Stir to blend mixture evenly.

Step 3

Add in the shredded cheese to the beef mixture and stir until the cheese is completely melted. Turn off the heat and set aside.

Step 4

Remove the biscuit dough from the cans and cut each in half. Roll each half into a ball, then use a rolling pin to flatten them out into circles.

Step 5

Add 1 tablespoon of the cheeseburger mixture to the center of each rolled dough circle.

Step 6

Carefully fold and pinch the dough up over the meat, making sure each one is completely closed.

Step 7

Fill Your Instant Pot with 1 cup of water. Then, lay parchment paper under each bun before placing in the Instant Pot steamer basket.

Step 8

Pressure cook the buns for 4 minutes. (Make sure the steamer valve is sealed.) Let the steam release naturally for 10 minutes, then manually release the rest of the steam before removing the buns.

Step 9

Serve these Cheeseburger pods immediately. Pair with your favorite side dish!
